Homemade Yoghurt Recipe

Do you love yoghurt? I'm a total yoghurt fiend so decided I needed to start making my own but very quickly realised that the yoghurt maker sachets weren't actually that cost effective & created waste! With a bit of hunting round on good old google I found that yes, you can make your own very easily for much less!

Its so simple if you want to give it a go:

Using your yoghurt maker container....

  • 1 cup (or 1.5 cups if you want a thicker yoghurt Greek style) of milk powder (I use low fat and it works just fine. Full fat powder will make a thicker yoghurt).
  • 2 tablespoons of powder from a yoghurt maker sachet (the greek yohurt ones or the unsweetened plain both work well)
  • Fill half way with cool water, shake then fill the rest of the way to the top with cool water.
  • Leave for 12 hours in your yoghurt maker with hot water
  • Then pop in the fridge to set it.

You can add sugar if you want it sweetened. Leave it longer in the yoghurt maker if you want it stronger flavoured.

You can add fruit purees once it has been set if you wish to. The options are endless.

So easy, way more cost effective and totally enjoyable. Keep the unused milk power and yogurt starter sachet in an airtight container in the fridge and they will last a very long time.

Hope you enjoy!
